Although this is the 12th installment in the series, the game is the second reboot of its timeline and the direct sequel to Mortal Kombat 11 — which was released in 2019. In Mortal Kombat 1, Liu Kang has the power to reboot the entire timeline and franchise to remake and fix the past. It’s essentially Mortal Kombat 12, but with a tongue-in-cheek title as a nod to the beginning of the series.

As for as the Premium Edition, it comes with the game itself (a few days before its official released), plus early access to DLC characters, including Suicide Squad’s Peacemaker, Homelander from The Boys, Invincible’s Omni Man and others. Players also get a Kombat Pack with six new playable characters, as well as a skin of Jean-Claude Van Damme (who the creators originally wanted for the fighting game) for Johnny Cage. You also get 1,250 in-game Dragon Krystals, among other features.

The standard edition for Mortal Kombat 1 comes out on September 19, but you can pre-order the title at Amazon. It’s also available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Windows PC.
